Poll confirms school trips bring classroom learning to life...

Recently, the programme undertook a polling survey to find out about the public perception surrounding young people's understanding of the First World War, and the value of school trips. The following release explains more...

In a recent survey carried out by Dr Catriona Pennell, Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Exeter, participating pupils rated our battlefield tours very highly. They said that the chance to see the battlefields, monuments and cemeteries on the Western Front for themselves had helped them gain a more profound understanding of the First World War and its continuing significance.

In recognition for the excellent delivery of the First World War Centenary Battlefield Tours Programme, UCL Institute of Education and Equity Inspiring Learning were awarded Education Partnership of the Year at the Education Investor Awards on 11th November 2015.


Legacy110 showcase event at the House of Lords

On Thursday 5th November, the Department for Communities and Local Government hosted an event at the House of Lords to showcase some of the excellent Legacy110 projects which are now being delivered by schools up and down the country. To a packed audience of partners, supporters and friends, including our host Lord Beecham and Karen Bradley MP, four schools presented their Legacy110 projects.


New CPD module launched in partnership with the IWM...

Using Artefacts Princess Mary Gift Box


Today, we have launched a new module in our online 'Optional CPD' series. This module, entitled 'Using artefacts: the Princess Mary Gift Box' has been created in partnership with the Imperial War Museums' and supports teachers in considering how to use artefacts in the classroom.


Autumn 2015 and the Battle of Loos

This autumn more than 1200 teachers and students from more than 430 schools will be visiting the former battlefields of the Western Front on one of our tours. In addition to visiting key locations around Ypres and on the Somme, a number of the groups will also be visiting the Loos battlefield to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Loos, fought in the autumn of 1915.


New Online CPD Module launched

We have launched the first of our new optional online CPD modules. This module, entitled 'Researching a local soldier', has been created in partnership with the Imperial War Museums' Lives of the First World War project and supports teachers in conducting research on those who served in the First World War.
